BWAFA (B-wah-fah)

Building With Africans,
For Africa.

The Movement creates the authority. The Firm converts it.

Africa's been building loud for a while now. African ventures are moving with real momentum, proven economics, and operational scale, we're talking traction from Lagos to Kigali to California. We bridge the gap between ground-level performance and capital-market evaluation. BWAFA structures commercial models, constructs defensible contract architecture, and aligns market positioning so founders retain ownership, eliminate cash leaks, and command their true valuation. Operation: Build the asset. Keep the wheel.

The gap we close

By 2030, four in ten of the world's young people will be African. Working-age population, largest on earth by 2040. Nobody builds like this by accident, and the Tribe is proof: real products, real revenue, real culture that travels further than the credit it gets.

Here's the part that stings. Plenty of founders losing rounds right now are objectively better than the ones winning them. Better product, better margins, better founder, told in a deck that undersells all of it, in a contract nobody stress-tested, in a brand voice that only says what they think an investor wants to hear.

That gap is not just about funding, even if funding is where it hurts loudest. It shows up in daily communications that quiet your authority, grant proposals that read generic, and contract clauses no one caught until they cost something. BWAFA closes that gap wherever it appears. We ensure what you have actually built on the ground and what the room in front of you understands are finally the same thing: defensible positioning that competitors cannot easily copy, built on what is real rather than a performance.

The Movement

We call ourselves the Tribe. Builders, founders, creatives, and the ones who stopped waiting for permission a while ago. We move on conviction and momentum, on Roundtables and reply-guy DMs turned real conversations, on the belief that Africa's business doesn't need a translator, it needs backing. Culture with capital instincts, showing up before the raise, not just after it.

This is where the authority gets built.

The Firm

This is the engine room. Decks get rebuilt, models get stress-tested until the leaks stop, contracts get drafted so they hold when someone actually pushes back, and the whole business gets positioned like the investment-grade asset it already is, brand, numbers, and legal, together.

This is where the authority turns into currency.

Conviction without structure gets exploited. Structure without conviction gets ignored. If it's telling you what's wrong, that's the Movement talking. If it's the one in the room fixing it, that's the Firm. We were never going to pick a side.

Why Movement + Firm?

Because playing small was never on the table.

Building With Africans, For Africa. Read that back slowly. That's not a name for something built to stay small, it's a whole building, with Africans in it, doing the work. Nobody holds up a building like that alone, and nobody holds it up on conviction alone either.

Bridging what's actually built on the ground with what capital markets recognize takes more than one seat at the table. It takes the capacity to occupy several, at once: the Movement to keep the culture and the conviction honest, the Firm to make sure the paperwork can survive the room it walks into. Africa has gone beyond laying low. This is what showing up at full size looks like.

Scale needs structure

A movement without a firm behind it stays a vibe. We built both, so the energy has somewhere to land.

Ownership is the whole point

Capital means nothing if you hand over the wheel to get it. The Firm exists so you don't have to.

Credibility compounds

Every deck that holds, every contract that doesn't get contested, raises what the next founder in the Tribe gets taken seriously for.

The Movement & The Firm

What’s FREE vs. What’s PAID

The Movement

Open. Collective. Pan-African.

The Movement is open. Driven by the Tribe, it is our Pan-African collective of builders, founders, and creators; PEOPLE sharing knowledge, momentum and shared authority across the continent through real action and visible impact.

The Firm

A paid practice. Built for the heavy labour.

The Firm is a paid practice. It is a dedicated team of specialists putting in the heavy labor behind closed doors to ensure your venture is built to last, investment-ready, and audit-proof. We do not do free deck reviews, quick favors, or casual strategy calls. If we are digging into your numbers, contracts, or pitch decks, it is a paid engagement, every single time.

We charge for our expertise because high-level structural work requires real labor, and feeding the brain trust behind that work is how we keep building across Africa.

Our Advisory Mandates

Structural work with a clear mandate.

01

Commercial Structure Audit

A focused deep-dive of your business structure and deal terms. We stress-test your go-to-market model to find operational leaks, fix bad terms before partners exploit them and refine your positioning so you walk into capital rooms with total control.

02

Retained Growth Advisory

Long-term, direct, ongoing partner-level backing for scaling companies. We step into your corner to guide expansion moves, structure major partnerships, refine pricing strategies, investor readiness, and ensure your business stays fundable as you grow across markets.

What we do

Not just pitch decks, though those get fixed too. Most founders lose the room because they only focus on what they think an investor wants to hear, instead of what's actually true about the business. Six lanes, one job: close that gap wherever it's hiding.

01

Brand Narrative & Pitch Clarity

We take what your company actually does and put it into words that survive a room full of people who've heard every pitch already.

02

Commercial Architecture

Your business model, read like a contract, line by line, until every leaking margin gets found and every price finally makes sense.

03

Communication Audits

An honest look at how you show up everywhere, the deck, the DMs, the default tone, and a straight answer on what's quietly working against you, and for you.

04

Grant & Investor Narrative

Funding applications and grant proposals, rebuilt so a reviewer reads past line one and starts rooting for you instead of skimming.

05

Legal Intelligence Applied

Contracts drafted, reviewed, and pressure-tested, so the clause nobody read twice doesn't end up costing you the company.

06

EdTech & Learning Design

Curriculum and platforms built for people who actually finish what they started, not just scroll through it.

End result: positioning competitors can't easily copy, because it's built from what's actually true about your business. No template, no borrowed voice, iykyk.

What we don't do

We review. We draft. We restructure. What we don't do is file your trademark or sit in as your registered legal counsel, your own lawyer handles that part. What we will do is the digging: finding and recommending the right legal firm in your country for your specific situation, so you're not googling "lawyer near me" the night before a signing deadline. Our job is making sure whatever ends up in that filing actually protects what's yours.

The mind behind BWAFA, in service of the institution

This isn't a personality spotlight. It's context for how BWAFA thinks, decides, and advocates for African ventures.

Long before BWAFA had a name, Our Founder was the person who noticed when something didn't add up: a conversation tilted against the quieter voice, a process that rewarded presentation over substance, a decision that treated African builders as risk before it recognised their rigour. The instinct was never theatrical. It was practical, persistent, and hard to switch off, the kind of thing that got her called "firm and instructive" by a courtroom panel before she'd even finished the degree.

Over time, that attention moved from individual moments to a pattern worth naming. Strong ventures kept struggling to be legible to capital. Founder stories kept getting forced into borrowed language. Contracts and commercial structures kept arriving late, once the leverage was already gone. BWAFA was built in response to that pattern, not as commentary from the sidelines, but as operating work done alongside founders.

Cultural authority, paired with commercial precision. That's the whole method.

The founder story matters only because it explains that method: clearer decks, sharper investor narratives, revenue architecture that holds, and legal intelligence applied early enough to protect ownership while growth is still being designed, not after the leverage is gone.

Work-Life Integration

Yeah, our founder works and plays hard too. A bit of a goofy-goof yet quite grounded when it’s time to wheel. She believes it’s rarely a "balance" when you're up building at 2am & somehow show up at 7am blazing everywhere needed. Predictable patterns tend to produce short-term results. The unconventional hours & patterns are usually where the long-term ones come from.

Nairobi, Kenya · Supply Chain & Logistics

AgriKip Solutions

The Problem

Had a profitable $22,000 ARR business, but was using a debt-heavy pitch deck that scared off VC capital.

The Fix

Rebuilt their commercial model and separated their logistics setup from processing assets.

The Result

Secured KSh 3,420,000 in non-dilutive grant funding and closed a $2k seed round without giving up founder control.

Lagos, Nigeria · Apparel & Retail

FIT-GEAR Brand

The Problem

Strong sales, but zero written contract structure between retail and manufacturing. Money was leaking quietly.

The Fix

Drafted clean intra-entity agreements and aligned the brand's proposal with institutional grant standards.

The Result

₦4,000,000 grant approved via the Seed Gems Foundation. Cash flow leaks stopped.

Kigali, Rwanda · Tech-Enabled Commerce

Zura Commerce

The Problem

The founder spent pitches explaining technical code instead of explaining how the business makes money.

The Fix

Stripped the jargon. Rebuilt the deck around market positioning and risk management.

The Result

Landed a core partnership with a regional bank. Investment pipeline opened with FRw 14,500,000 committed.

"Most people tell you what you want to hear. Mandy tells you where your business is losing money. When our grant approval came through, the first person my co-founder and I messaged was Mandy. Africa has a lot of people talking, but very few who actually know how to build paper so investors take you seriously. BWAFA restructured our model in weeks. We didn't just get the money. We kept our equity too."

"They don't just review contracts; they stop you from signing away your life. Before BWAFA, our contracts were just templates from Google. During our audit, Mandy spotted a clause in an early deal that would have stripped us of our IP rights the second we scaled past $10,000. That single catch saved my company. Straight to the point, zero confusion."

"I thought BWAFA was just another online group. Then I got real direction. I joined during Shop African Week just looking to learn. I ended up winning the cash prize, and out of curiosity, booked an advisory session. That was when I realized I was severely undercharging. Two weeks after fixing my pricing model, I closed my biggest client yet."

"The session didn't just fix my deck. It changed how I step into rooms. Building in Kigali, it's easy to feel like you have to copy Western pitch patterns. Working with BWAFA was different. We cut out the generic noise and focused on what actually makes us dangerous to competitors. I walked into my next board meeting a completely different founder."

"BWAFA gives you structure long after the applause dies down. Winning the Africa Grants Award was great, but BWAFA showed us what to do next. They helped us manage the capital so we didn't waste it on random expenses. If you want to build something that actually lasts, get them on your team."
